Sometimes my emotions come up with a feeling that settles into a lacuna. I wanted to express a feeling of advanced regret, but not dread. There wasn’t fear, but a calming sort of sadness. So I ended up writing a poem bout it. Hadn’t written a poem all year.
Pregret
Possibles push me out on all fours
and nipping tell lies shaped of clouded cotton-love
are you well? are you well enough? are you enough?
Dying back with rumbling doubt and there
leaking over sky-sets I see Inevitable looming,
breaking over,
posturing,
seeping through,
just as a weeping sore
such that creeps towards hope.
Inevitable doesn’t rumble,
yet booms inside.
are you? are you? you?
I look up and see Inevitable and as
doubt rumbles back and I can’t trust
the translation of those words anymore.
